6 Guests
3 bedrooms
3.5 bathrooms
350 m2
1° floor
The apartment’s current breathtaking form is the outcome of a painstaking restoration, and demonstrates the ingenuity of its owners, an English classical Architect and his wife.
Imperiale is on the main piano nobile of the 17th century Palazzo Grimani, which bears the name of the notable Venetian family who originally occupied it, before it became Venice’s bridge club for many years.
Behind the elegant and imposing white facade, two half flights of stairs lead to the apartment’s entrance. Two double doors open up onto a stunning central ballroom, with original stucco mouldings, delicately frescoed ceilings, and grandiose gilt mirrors. Six extensive French windows at the front of the room open onto a long balcony facing the lovely square and the Gritti Palace Hotel, while also enjoying Grand Canal views.
To the left of the central salon is the formal dining room with stately dinner table for ten (up to 14) and spectacular central Murano crystal chandelier. The original stuccoes showcase a variety of musical instruments, which points to the fact that this was almost certainly originally the music room, or sala della musica. From here, an intimate breakfast area leads to a very well equipped kitchen with sage-green cabinetry, and a guest powder room which is useful for invited friends to use.
